Fleeing Domestic Violence

Seeking Justice

I suffered

much domestic violence

physical abuse

emotional abuse

from my partner.

He did drugs.

I suffered from depression

panic attacks

constant fear

I took legal action.

I got a restraining order.

He disobeyed.

He pursued me.

In my home

to continue his violent abuse.

*

I called the police.

He was taken away.

Locked up.

My lawyers told me

leave my country

for my safety and my son’s.

*

We reached the United States.

It took two months.

We asked at the border for help.

We were informed:

“We are not allowing anyone to enter.”

We were heartbroken.

All our suffering along the way

wasted.

*

My former partner is out of jail.

He is looking for me.

I am afraid.
